Thierry Bouët was born in Paris in 1959.

He graduated from law school before starting his photography career. After a stint as an army photographer, he worked as Tony Kent’s (a fashion photographer) assistant in 1981-82, then as a photographer and art director at the studio Harcourt.

In 1983 Mr. Bouët struck out on his own, contributing to various magazines and newspapers, including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle USA, Marie-Claire, L’Egoïste, Vanity Fair and Libération.

In 1995 he exhibited his work in several countries and published a book about people living in hotels (Hotel People, Smithsonian).

Five years later GQ magazine voted him one of the world’s top five photographers and the National Turkish Museum in Istanbul exhibited his work on the theme "Fin de siècle".
The same year, he received the jury’s special prize at the FNAC Expo "Attention Talent" contest for a 10-year postcard correspondence with his best friend.

In 2001 Mr. Bouët discovered the smallest village in France, where just two people live. He made a 90-min. documentary about it for Les Films d’Ici and the first issue of Le Monde 2 magazine published his pictures of the village.

After four years of reportage, in 2003 he published a book about women seeking Mr. Right in the classified ads (Chasse à l’homme, éditions Alternatives). His work was exhibited at the Clermont-Ferrand photography festival.

IIn 2007 Mr. Bouët won a competition organized by the first Biennale des Agents Associés for a series of portraits of women working in a sardine cannery in Brittany. They were displayed at the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris.
In October of the same year the Bon Marché department store in Paris hosted a show of his work about laziness. His pictures of people sleeping in unusual beds appeared in several international publications.

In 2008 Mr. Brouët was among 70 artists from around the world selected to exhibit a series of pictures at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai on the theme of Sport in Art. The show traveled to seven museums, including the Beijing Museum of Modern Art.
In May 2008 the first New York Photo Festival, chaired by Martin Parr, exhibited a series of portraits of babies he made just few minutes after they were born. The work was displayed at the Rencontres d’Arles.

In 2009 he is the guest of honor at the photographic festival of Saint Petersburg.

Programmed by the festival of the cultural diversity of UNESCO in 2010, he exhibits his work in Fabriano Italy.

Selected by Polynesia to celebrate the 50 years anniversary of the pearl he exhibits the trip of a pearl from the sea to the case in spring 2011 place Vendôme in Paris.

It is impossible to pigeonhole Mr. Bouët, who has been recording his work, life, journeys and feelings for 20 years in the form of one-off postcards that he mailed to his best friend. Of course he hopes to publish this correspondence, the later the better.
